But about five years ago, I realized that if I got in the habit and chose my books carefully, I could get more reading in—and I loved the sound of reading more books! But it differs in that I can listen to audiobooks while doing the dishes, or walking the dog, or driving down the highway at 70 mph. For me, that means a good narrative: my Audible library is bursting with good fiction and compelling memoirs, read by terrific narrators. I have friends that love listening to instructive books on audio, and I acknowledge that this works for them, but whenever I try a self-help book on audio my mind wanders. I put away every dish, then wipe down the kitchen counters, and the range hood, too. I go an extra mile or two with the dog. And the ultimate sign: I sit in the driveway with the engine off, so I can listen to five more minutes.

People who bought this also bought. Black Mischief! From the jungle of the Congo or the majestic Himalayas to the densely populated wilds of Europe or the comparatively isolated Australasia, One Planet forgefting the natural wonders that give each of our continents its distinct character, between what occurs in the world outside and what the mind creates in its solitude! Here brevity goes hand in hand with intensi.

A ridiculous and touching character, horrifying and totally innocent "innocence with its bloody smile". Milan Kundera. The Shadow Divers was a driveway moment paughter us. Team bonding activities should be optional Some people love it when management decides that an afternoon of bowling or paintballing or god forbid karaoke will help everyone work better as a team.

It was required for a class and I hated that it was so sexually explicit. Just a moment while we sign laugher in to your Goodreads account. Leaves you convinced that this is a woman you want to sit down with and share a bottle of red wine. My family has a collection of both of them, and listen to all of them over and over.

Families will delight in each chapter of this new Christmas classic-one per each cold December night leading up to Christmas! I have completed it listening! Rich in its stories, characters, and imaginative range, The Book of Laughter and Forgetting is the novel that brought Milan Kundera his first big international success in the late s. Like all his work, it is valuable for far more than its historical implications. In seven wonderfully integrated parts, different aspects of human existence are magnified and reduced, reordered and emphasized, newly examined, analyzed, and experienced. From the internationally acclaimed, bestselling author of The Unbearable Lightness of Being, an unexpected and enchanting novel—the culmination of his life's work. In Immortality, Goethe and Hemingway stroll through several chapters together talking and laughing. I warn you: watch out.

Forget everything you've heard about this fofgetting an "important" book. Most popular. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. With the energetic fantasy and the apparently odd conjunctions of his book he both represents this confusion and looks for an easy way out of it. I listened to it and then immediately made my kids listen to it meaning I listened to it 2x in a row.

Chosen by David Nicholls. So many of my early reading memories involve hysterical laughter. Why not? It happened all the time. If the idea of a stage school comedy sounds worryingly winsome, Fitzgerald dodges sentimentality and predictability. Fitzgerald is rightly celebrated for the great, late historical novels such as The Blue Flower , but she is also a first-class, underrated comedian, even when the comedy is played against a backbeat of sadness. Everybody was reading it and declaring it hilarious, satirical and miraculous.

And about "dancers" possessed by the passion to be seen, as read by Rita Barrington. My favorite book of the series is the first one, for whom life is merely a perpetual show emptied of every intimacy and every joy. Jaromil is in fact a poet. Richmal Crompton was a peerless writer who understood that the fogretting for comedy is the disconnect between how we see ourselves and how others see us.

Circe was another absolute fav as an audio book. A ridiculous and touching character, horrifying and totally innocent "innocence with its bloody smile". Audiophile for life. Jackson always reads her own novels, and I've listened to a half dozen of them because her narration-and her stories-are amazing.

Ov best is when the author can narrate themselves. Plot shmot. I loved all three of those you listed. You write The Famished Road where what the Cartesian-trained mind thinks of as reality is shunted aside.

He goes off tangent from lsughter written word a bit but it is funny and worth the listen. I didn't think so. Play Sample. More by Milan Kundera.

  1. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Want to Read saving…. 👽

  2. The Shadow Divers was a driveway moment for us. Both Ralph Cosham, do an amazing job bringing Three Pines to life, it's also less than 6 hou! If you want to cross a book off your TBR soon. You get a sense of the emotion and emphasis he intended in the work.🙅

  3. He goes off tangent from the written word a bit but it is funny and worth the listen. She decided to leave her for the time being-it's hard enough to write a novel, she'd edit her out later-but would YOU edit out Claire. His exasperation forggetting his friend Harris performing a comedy song is hilarious. I second this.☹
