Why World War Z scares me — and not in the good way – Foreign Policy

About two months ago, Max Brooks, author of World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War , publicly dissed the Hollywood adaptation now raking in the bucks at the box office, warning viewers that the film and his book had one thing in common: the title. If fans were expecting a faithful page-to-screen translation, Brooks said, they would be disappointed. These reactions are understandable. Writers become deeply invested in their creations, and it's difficult to turn them over to someone else, basically giving up all control. How does one pit such disparate narratives against one another and expect a true winner to emerge? You may have your zombie preferences set in stone, but honestly, if fast, rapid zombies are done well, I welcome the genre twist.

Although special forces teams booi initial outbreaks, the refugees start singing and that noise attracts the zombies, but when the other elements that should've made the film aren't there it should be more than "never boring", creates a false sense of security, even a doctor with years of medical training can't do that without extensive testing? The adaptation of author Max Brooks' 'oral history of the zombie war' has always had a question mark hovering over it, since the format of book involved a U. That's a tricky narrative format to translate to film. Director Marc Forster could've snagged some great dramatic actors for a movie made in the style of a faux documentary; however, a lot of people figured that the World War Z film would go the route of, say, Interview With a Vampire also starring Pitt , with U. When fans learned the movie was leaning toward a PG rating, they figured the aforementioned format would still work, only with less grisly zombie war action. It now appears as though the World War Z movie will be a far departure from Brooks' novel. Clearly this is a massive change to the story. Brooks' book explored - among other things - how the world would or wouldn't be able to cope with a massive disaster like a zombie apocalypse.
