The movie is based on the true story of former Elle magazine editor, Jean-Dominique Bauby. In he suffered a massive stroke and went into a coma. That is the method that they would go on to use to write his memoir, which the movie shared the same name with. The book was published in France in March of and ten days later Bauby died from lung failure. I mean, can you imagine the complete and utter frustration from being completely well mentally but only being able to move ONE EYE? I do not know how he did it without going crazy. He not only stayed sane but he wrote a memoir!
